Official Florida State Flag of FL

Regular price $24.95

The official flag of the State of Florida features a white field with a red saltire (a diagonal cross), which divides the flag into four quadrants. The top-left and bottom-right quadrants feature a red field, while the top-right and bottom-left quadrants feature a white field. The saltire is said to represent the cross of Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, as Florida was named by the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León in 1513, who was in turn inspired by the Spanish term "Pascua Florida" meaning "Feast of Flowers" and also the Scottish heritage of some of the first settlers in the state. The red color is symbolic of the blood shed by Floridians during battles, the white stands for purity. This flag was officially adopted in 1900.
